Start early, start social
Cantinas on Sexta before 10 PM are conversational; after midnight they are loud. Plaza Fiesta is the easiest place in the city to talk to strangers over a beer.
Use a host for the first night
The Sexta Social exists for exactly this: six to ten solo travelers, a host who knows which door is worth the line.
Practical
Carry ID, keep the phone in a pocket on the street, know your way back before you need it. Zona Norte is an adult district, not a place to wander by accident.
