How locals actually use Sexta
Calle Sexta is not a bar crawl. It is a street where you stand in one place and the night comes to you.
Visitors treat Sexta like a checklist: Dandy, then Mezcalera, then Mous Tache, then a club, then home. Locals do the opposite. You pick a bar based on who you are meeting, and you stay. People move; you do not.
The street fills in a predictable order. Cantinas from about nine. Mezcal and cocktail bars from ten. The rooms with DJs from eleven, and the big clubs on Revolución from midnight. If you arrive at eleven and go to a cantina, you will think Sexta is quiet. It is not quiet; you are early for the wrong room.
Money: pesos are faster everywhere, dollars work and you will get pesos back. Cover is rare in the bars and common in the clubs, and it changes by night and by who is playing. Nobody publishes it, which is why you ask at the door and why the tip posts on this site matter.
Leaving: taxis pass all night; agree the fare before you get in if there is no meter. Ride-hail pickup works better one block off the strip. And if you are walking to the crossing, the northbound line at 2 AM is a line. Bring a jacket.
